Meghalaya Public Service Commission's Meghalaya Civil Service (MCS) Examination — the state's senior administrative entry-cadre exam. Prelims has two compulsory objective papers (200 marks each): General Studies (the standard national syllabus plus a dedicated 'General Knowledge and Current Affairs on the State of Meghalaya' item) and an Aptitude Test (qualifying). Mains has a qualifying English paper, an Essay paper, four General Studies papers verbatim-tracking UPSC's own Mains GS1-4 syllabus, and — uniquely — an entire dedicated Paper-VI titled simply 'Meghalaya', covering the state's History, Polity, Socio-Economic Issues, Culture and Heritage, Literature, and Geography. There is no optional subject at all in this exam. Study material reuses UPSC's own extensive GS Mains citation corpus for Papers I-V, with 3 chapters authored fresh for Meghalaya's own history and political development (including the state's 1972 formation and its unique Sixth Schedule Autonomous District Councils), culture, heritage and literature (the matrilineal Khasi/Garo social structure, indigenous festivals, and Khasi/Garo/Jaintia literary traditions), and geography and socio-economic issues (the Khasi/Garo/Jaintia Hills, the globally distinctive Cherrapunji/Mawsynram rainfall records, and the state's economic profile).
